Keyboard: keep your left hand on WASD with your thumb on Space for turbo, and your right hand on J, K and L, like the buttons on a controller. Playing with the arrow keys? Use Z to pass, X to shoot, C to dodge and Shift for turbo. In menus, J or Space picks and L or Esc goes back. To pick your own keys, or to hide the key hints under the rink, open Settings.

Controllers: Xbox, PlayStation and Switch Pro controllers use the standard layout. USB SNES-style controllers get a SNES layout (D-pad runs, B pass, Y shoot, A dodge, L or R turbo). If your buttons feel wrong, open Settings and use Set up buttons. Press any button once after plugging in so the browser notices the controller.

Who has the ball

The ball carrier has a yellow ring at their feet and a ball icon overhead. Your player has the white arrow, which turns yellow when you have the ball. A loose ball pulses on the turf.

Shooting

Hold shoot and release inside the green band. Too early floats to the goalie, and too late sails over the bar. Steer up or down while shooting to pick a corner.

Defense

A stick check near the carrier knocks the ball loose some of the time. A body check hits harder but costs turbo. Miss either one and you're off balance for a moment.

Dodges

With the ball, dodge beside a defender for a split dodge that can break his ankles. In open space it's a burst of speed instead.

Box rules

There's a 30-second shot clock. The boards keep the ball in play, and only goalies may enter the crease.

Arcade rules

Goals from beyond the dashed arc are worth 2, and hot spots on the turf are worth 3 to 5. Three straight team goals puts the scorer on fire.

Exhibition

Pick any two of 50 made-up state teams, then choose your kit, stick head and shaft. Each team is rated for speed, shooting, stick skills, defense and goalie.

Season

A 10-game schedule: every rival in your region, plus a rivalry week. The rest of the league plays too, so the standings are live. The top 16 go to a playoff bracket.

Tournaments

Three 8-team cups: the Sandlot Cup, the Border War and the National Invitational. Win any cup to unlock the Hammer Shaft.

Training

Shooting, wall ball, ground ball and face-off drills, each with bronze, silver and gold medals. A gold unlocks gear that improves your ratings in real games.

Trophy Room

A board of all 50 states that lights up as you beat each one, with your career record and the gear you've unlocked.

Two players

Grab a buddy: play versus (you against them) or co-op (together against the computer) in Exhibition. Two controllers, or one person on the keyboard and one on a controller. Co-op wins count toward your career; versus is just for fun.

Game length

2, 3 or 4 minute games. Change it on the team select screen.

    Partner inquiries open soon.

    Is it free?

Yes. The whole game plays free in a web browser right now. Nothing is for sale yet.

Are there ads, chat or accounts?

No. There are no ads, no chat with strangers and no accounts to create.

What does it save, and where?

Progress is saved on your own device, in the browser. Pixel Crease doesn't ask for names, emails or birthdays.

How do I move my progress to another device?

Open Settings, copy your save code, and load it on the other device.

Can I use a game controller?

Yes, including USB SNES-style controllers. Xbox, PlayStation and Switch Pro controllers work over USB or Bluetooth. For any controller whose buttons feel wrong, open Settings and use Set up buttons. Controllers that support rumble shake on goals and big hits.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. Touch controls appear under the game when you hold the phone upright, and over the edges of the game when you turn it sideways.

    Are these real teams?

No. All 50 state teams and their nicknames are made up. They aren't affiliated with any real team, school, league or organization.

    Save code

Progress saves in this browser automatically. To carry it to another device, copy this code and load it there.

    Controller

No controller found yet. Plug one in and press any button.

Each button does two jobs: with the ball it passes, shoots or dodges; on defense the same buttons switch player, stick check or body check.

    Challenges

Finish a drill or win a game, then send a friend a code to beat your score. Codes only hold the game setup, the score and your nickname.
